PHOTO ESSAY: Sweden's Unexpected Obsession With American Cars

“Looking from the outside in, I realized that the American car is an ideal hobby to integrate into the Swedish summer culture,” says Schmatz. People use their exhibit-worthy jänkare (Yankee cars) for purely utilitarian reasons, such as finding a great swimming hole, like this one in the Skagerrak sea off the island of Orust on the west coast.
