The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) designated Eindhoven and Helsinki as the next two cities shortlisted for the prestigious title of World Design Capital in 2012. The World Design Capital is an honour given to cities that promote innovaive urban design and use it as a tool for social, cultural and economic development. Previous award-winning cities include Torino in 2008 and Seoul in 2010. The final jury deliberation will take place in Montreal in September 2009, and the final decision will be revealed at the World Design Congress in Singapore, on November 25th, 2009.
