Chairman's Suite, Fairmont Pacific Rim, Vancouver
Design: James Cheng (James KM Cheng Architects Inc.)
With this suite, also dubbed the "rockstar suite," Cheng takes the concept of blurring the line between inside and out to the next level. The floor-to-ceiling windows let you keep track of the ships docking at nearby Canada Place and the float planes coming and going over Burrard Inlet. Even the bathroom has a positive outlook: a 1,200-square-foot private terrace, complete with reflecting pool, cabana and firepit.

“The double-height room that overlooks Vancouver is exceptional. The suite has all the right pieces; there are very few surprises, which is a good thing.”

Through the Roof
No doubt you’ll forgive architect Mike Kininmonth, of Bennetts Associates Architects, if he gives you a crick in the neck. The huge skylight that crowns the lobby at the Mint Hotel Tower of London is perfect for viewing the surrounding historic buildings.
