Christie Kerr, Curvature Wines
Napa Valley, California
For American golfer Cristie Kerr, who has criss-crossed the globe racking up wins in over 16 LPGA tournaments, developing a taste for wine was par for the course (she's studying for sommelier certification). Her partnership with Suzanne Pride-Bryan of Pride Mountain Vineyards, on the Napa/Sonoma county line, produces an award-winning cabernet sauvignon and a bright, elegant chardonnay, with proceeds going to breast cancer awareness.
When he hosted the Champions Dinner after his Masters win, PGA golfer Mike Weir requested that all wines be VQA from Niagara, where his Italian grandfather made his own. He has since paired up with Château des Charmes winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the region's oldest commercial vineyard, to produce six varietals - plus a Vidal icewine - that help fund the Mike Weir Foundation, dedicated to advancing children's welfare in Canada.
Stellenbosch, South Africa
South Africa's "Big Easy" earned the nickname for his stature and fluid swing, but it fits his ethos as vintner, too: Nature has the final call in winemaking as in golf. The sunny slopes of Helderberg Mountain, in Stellenbosch's granite-rich Golden Triangle, boast conditions similar to the Mediterranean terroir. And no tasting tour is complete without a visit to the golf tee box on the property.
