ANdAZ London
London, U.K.

Location Connected to the Liverpool Street rail and subway stations, the hotel is handily close to London’s financial centres and such venerable markets as Leadenhall, Petticoat Lane and Spitalfields. Highlight On the site of a 13th-century hospital, the present building (built in 1884) provides the shell for a remarkable new-look hotel concept; the front lobby, for instance, has been replaced by a guest lounge complete with self-serve bar. Cuisine The selection of excellent venues includes an authentic English pub, a Champagne bar, a superb seafood restaurant and a lively bistro. Insider tip Ask one of the keen young managers to show you the two genuine Masonic halls in the basement, which look just like a movie set. Rooms 267. GM Arnaud de Saint-Exupéry.

Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru
Maldive Islands

Location On one of the islands of Baa Atoll in the Indian Ocean, the hotel is 45 minutes by seaplane from Malé International Airport. Spa The 10-room spa complex, which specializes in Ayurvedic treatments and yoga, has four overwater treatment rooms on stilts with attached steam rooms and deep baths that overlook the ocean. Room to book Wake up in thatched beachfront villa 219, and look out through picture windows to your private 12-metre lap pool, with the beach and azure ocean 20 metres beyond.
