Alexandre Taillefer, businessman, chairman of the board of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal and formidable "dragon" on Radio-Canada television, shares his favourite spots in the city.

Alexandre Taillefer

01 Patrice Pâtissier

Patrice Demers is an exceptional pastry chef in the great French tradition. I'm crazy about his kouign-amann, a kind of butter cake, and his banana-caramel cream puff; they're both classics. On my trips to nearby Atwater Market, I always end up here.
2360, rue Notre-Dame O., 514-439-5434,

02 Le Serpent

The latest restaurant from Claude Pelletier and Hubert Marsolais feels like it could be in a New York borough. Kudos to the unusually good art (by painters like Quebec's Pierre Dorion), and to sommelier Philippe Boisvert's wine list.
257, rue Prince, 514-316-4666,

03 Édifice Belgo

Roger Bellemare, Pierre-François Ouellette, Joyce Yahouda… There are so many good galleries in this building! If you want to fill your walls with exciting works, head here after a visit to the Musée d'art contemporain.
372, rue Sainte-Catherine O.,

04 Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal

The general manager, John Zeppetelli, and I are working hard to shake things up at this museum, which is unique in Canada and every bit as good as the big institutions. It's still a well-kept secret that deserves a larger audience; we want Montrealers to proudly call it their own.
185, rue Sainte-Catherine O., 514-847-6226,

05 Marie-Sophie Dion bar à lunettes

This eyewear boutique is run by a talented, hard-working entrepreneur with a unique concept: Take a comfy seat at the central "bar" and be guided by optical stylists, who hone in on your tastes and then come up with the perfect frames for your face. I've bought dozens of pairs here.
401, rue McGill, 514-843-3466,

06 Philippe Dubuc

Dubuc is a Quebec designer of high-quality menswear. His off-the-rack clothes didn't fit my body type, but I was patient, Philippe and I became friends, and now he makes my suits to measure. He completely changed my wardrobe.
417, rue Saint-Pierre, 514-282-1465,
