When she isn’t covering the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, Sonali Karnick is either on the squash court or working for the CBC as the host of Radio One’s All in a Weekend and CBC Television’s Our Montreal. The hockey fan makes her picks.

1. The Comedy Nest
I used to do standup. We think of Montreal for the Just For Laughs Festival, but there’s great comedy happening all year round here. There’s so much going on in Quebec that you can laugh at. This is a really nice performing space.

2313, rue Sainte-Catherine O., 514-932-6378

2. Juliette & Chocolat
The brownies will make you forget your name. My sister never wants to share her chocolate lava cake, so I usually order a hot chocolate and wait until she isn’t looking to sneak a bite.

377, av. Laurier O., 514-510-5651

3. Aréna Étienne-Desmarteaux
I love going to see the Montreal Stars play at this arena in Rosemont. This is all skill. You get to see the best in women’s hockey, and it’s only $10! Plus, the players stay after the game and sign autographs.

3430, rue de Bellechasse, 514-872-6578

4. Aréna Maurice-Richard
The World Short Track Speed Skating Championship is happening here next month, from March 14 to 16. If you’ve ever seen the sport on TV and thought it looked cool, in person it’s about a million times more awesome. You literally cannot breathe when the skaters pass each other at that speed.

2800, rue Viau, 514-872-6666

5. Restaurant Garde Manger

How can you make butter better? Chuck Hughes has found a way. Last time I went, I had Cornish hen with corn butter. And you can’t leave without having the Bloody Caesar with full crab claw – it’s like five drinks and an hors d’oeuvre in one.

408, rue Saint-François-Xavier, 514-678-5044

6. Maison Symphonique de Montréal
You have to see the MSO here at least once in your life. The sound and the experience in this place are unbelievable – and this from a radio person who has crazy super hearing.

Place des Arts, 1600, rue Saint-Urbain, 514-842-2112
