From his flamboyant play on the ice to outsize philanthropic exploits off it, Toronto-born P.K. Subban does it all in his own signature style. Now the Nashville Predators defenceman — arguably the biggest personality to emerge from pro hockey in a generation — is putting his stamp on a line of six men’s suits designed in collaboration with Canadian retailer RW&CO. for its Spring 2017 collection, which hits stores February 19. We caught up with him before a team road trip to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
What’s your packing style?
Travel is a big part of my routine, so I keep it simple. If I have an early flight, I’ll pack the night before, which usually means jamming the essentials into my bag.
What do you bring to menswear design?
This is my second time working with RW&CO. as co-designer. From the start I wanted to make sure the suits would fit guys like me, so the cut is slim fit and athletic. They’re really sharp.
What’s your favourite style accessory?
I love my shades. This only developed recently when I discovered a few boutique sunglasses brands. They’ve got a great selection at Harry Toulch in Montreal.
What do you miss most about Canada?
My family... and my barber, Patrice Alexander from Forum Barber Parlour. He flies in from Toronto to see me every two weeks.
Where to for your next vacation?
I train all year, so vacations aren’t a big part of my schedule. But Italy, for the food, the culture and the history, is on my list.
