Director's Bio


Latonia Hartery

Latonia Hartery is a director from St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her background is in documentary work. She has acted as production manager on six episodes of CBC’s Land and Sea, and she wrote and directed two episodes: “The Last Sardine Outpost” and “Rum Running.” Hartery also worked as production manager of two recent CBC DocZones, called Facebook Follies and Counterfeit Culture. The latter was the recipient of the international One World Award in 2013. She recently graduated from NIFCO’s Picture Start Program, where she directed the narrative film Sadie. She is also an Arctic Archaeologist, and for her contributions to Canadian culture and Arctic knowledge, won Canada’s Outstanding Young Person Award in 2010.

Deanne Foley

Deanne Foley is from St. John’s, Newfoundland. She has worked as a field-producer for CBC shows, including Street Cents and ZeD. In addition to being the producer of Sadie as part of NIFCO’s Picture Start Program, she also produced the 2002 short film Boy. She is also director, and has directed two feature films, Beat Down (2012) and Relative Happiness (2013).
