Portland, Maine

The former headquarters of the Portland Press Herald are now home to an elegant and inviting hotel with views of the city’s harbour and decor that nods to its past, like newsprint wallpaper.

Number of rooms 110.

Neighbourhood The Old Port District’s cobblestone streets lead down to boat-lined wharfs.

What we loved Nursing a summery No. 1 Court cocktail made with Pimm’s, lemon and honey while drafting a letter on a typewriter in the lounge.

Order Maine lobster in beurre monté at Union, the hotel’s ocean- and farm-to-table restaurant.
