The Souvenir: Pot of Gold

These jams make St. Lawrence Market a sweet spot.

Homemade sweet and savoury preserves line the walls of A Bisket - A Basket at Toronto's indoor St. Lawrence Market, where the city's best cooks have been buying ingredients since 1803. Owner Urs Aeby sits at the red-and-green stall on the market's lower level, a ritual Saturday stop for devotees of his all-natural jams, marmalades and chutneys. Try the bestselling blood orange and cranberry marmalade or the white nectarine with tamarind jam. The holiest of all is the herbaceous red lavender jam: made from strawberries, lavender and merlot, it's so divine it was requested by the late Pope John Paul II on a visit to the city.

Each 250-ml pot: $8
