Lisbon Portela Airport is located seven kilometres from the city centre. Bus 91 goes to and from the airport; a one-way ticket costs €1.35, and an all-day ticket costs €3.35. A taxi costs between €10 and €15 and is approximately a 15-minute ride from the city centre. The AeroBus, which stops by dozens of Lisbon hotels, is a convenient alternative; the fare is just €3.15, and the bus departs every 20 minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. (every 30 minutes after 9 p.m.).
The Lisbon Metro is the most efficient way to get around, especially between downtown and uptown. A single ticket is €1.40 or you can purchase a one-day ticket (valid for 24 hours) for €6. Lisbon’s metro is clean and modern and runs from 6:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Plan your journey beforehand with metrolisboa.pt/eng.
Take a taxi if you’re looking to head outside the city centre or to get around late at night. It should cost no more than €10 for a ride to or from anywhere within the city and the downtown core.
Walking around Lisbon is the best way to experience the city’s charm, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes and expect a moderate workout, thanks to the many steep streets and steps.
