New Beverly Cinema

The New Beverly has been a candy factory, a nightclub and many other things, but when Quentin Tarantino took over the 85-year-old La Brea landmark in 2014, he vowed that “as long as I’m alive and as long as I’m rich, the New Beverly will be there, showing double features in 35 mm.” Tarantino’s art-house programming is the star here, including weekend midnight shows of modern cult flicks and B movies on Tuesdays. Aspiring Tarantinos form a line at the concession for White Castle sliders and then settle in to chuckle their way through Shaw Brothers kung fu, spaghetti westerns and burn-marked film trailers, like one for a movie about crime-fighting Chinese rickshaw drivers (it appeared to be a comedy).
