Each year we select the best short films from emerging filmmakers and broadcast them to a large international audience on Air Canada's inflight entertainment system.

We honour the best of our fest at a free public screening and awards celebration at the end of the year.

Awards will be handed out for:

  • - Best Short Film
  • - Achievement in Animation
  • - Achievement in Direction
  • - Achievement in Cinematography

The winner of Best Short Film will receive $5,000 courtesy of presenting sponsor Cineplex Entertainment.

All award winners will receive an all-inclusive trip for two to the Whistler Film Festival courtesy of Air Canada.

About the Festival

The festival is open to all emerging Canadian filmmakers.

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

You must have been a student attending any formal (university or college) film-studies institution or receiving informal training in film studies (production courses, workshops, hands-on experience in media-arts production) anywhere in the world as of September 2007 or later.

You must be of legal age in your jurisdiction; otherwise, an application must be made by a parent or guardian on your behalf.

Submissions that have been broadcast on commercial television are not eligible.

This festival is free to enter. The deadline is May 31, 2010.
