enRoute Why does Aeroplan work for you?
Justin Resuello It lets me make great redemptions for the best transcontinental flights in North America. There are great opportunities to travel abroad on Air Canada in Signature class or with Star Alliance partners over an ocean. Over the past two years I had Super Elite Status, so that was really valuable. I was able to enjoy Star Alliance lounges and the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge when I traveled abroad.
ER How do you earn most of your Aeroplan points?
JR I have the Chase Aeroplan Card, and it has been helpful for me to top up my status and earn points on every single purchase. I earn additional Aeroplan points through other U.S. cards, too.
ER What was your best Aeroplan redemption?
JR It was business class to Osaka, direct, with my partner — all on Aeroplan points. We were booked in that cabin with the sort of love seats, right next to each other. We visited Tokyo Disneyland, Kyoto and Osaka.
ER First travel memory?
JR Flying with my parents to the Philippines as a kid. I was in business class — by mistake, because those were the only tickets left. It was the first time I got to enjoy a flight with ice cream, a big comfy seat and impeccable service. Ever since that day, I’ve wanted to figure out ways to redeem points for premium travel. If I didn’t get to see what was behind the curtain, I would have never known!
ER Dream seatmate?
JR Someone that I could learn from and who inspires me, like Steve Jobs.
ER Window or aisle seat?
JR I’m definitely an aisle traveler, because I like to stand up and move around. I get my steps in.
ER Check in or carry-on?
JR I always try to carry on. I have a Rimowa suitcase and I like to put stickers from my destinations on it.
