Hozier, Drake and Charlotte Cardin: Here’s What’s on Team Canada’s Playlist
We asked Team Canada athletes to share the artists and jams that pump them up (or cool them down) on the road.
01
“Half Life”
Livingston
Right now, one of my favourite songs is “Half Life” by Livingston. — Zak Madell
02
“Fireball”
Pitbull
Right now, I have a really long ultimate throwback playlist going. Lately, I’m just not feeling the music that’s being put out. A lot of it’s from around 1999-2012. I keep adding songs to it. We’ve got some Justin Bieber, “As Long As You Love Me,” and “Fireball,” by Pitbull. — Marissa Papaconstantinou
03
“Love Yourz”
J. Cole
When it comes to my favorite songs right now, there are a few that really stand out. “Now or Never” by Kendrick Lamar is an anthem for me. J. Cole is another favorite artist of mine, with tracks like “Love Yours” from the album Forest Hill Drive that speak to appreciating life. Ultimately, the lyrics and the overall vibe of the music play a huge role in what resonates with me at any given moment. — Phil Kim
04
“Lean on Me”
Bill Withers
I like to listen to ambient rain sounds on the plane. And I’m really picky – like, there can’t be thunder. It needs to be just the sound of plain rain falling on rocks. Musically, one of my favourite songs is “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers. I play piano, so I also like classical music. — Cindy Ouellet
05
“Party Up”
DMX
Sometimes I just listen to classical music when I’m on a flight and want to chill. I do like Afro music on a flight, too. It’s completely different from my competition playlist, which has anything that hypes me up on it, like old rap, DMX, that kind of thing. — Joshua Liendo
06
“Pyramids”
Frank Ocean
My friend, Abby Dunford, and I love the song “Pyramids” by Frank Ocean. She’s always wanted to see the pyramids and she got me into the song, so I think going to see the pyramids in Egypt together would be really cool. — Summer McIntosh
07
“Sittin’ on Top of the World”
Burna Boy
I’m a big Afrobeats guy, so I’d need my Burna Boy in there. I’m a big fan of Drake as well. — Luguentz Dort
08
“Would That I”
Hozier
I don’t have a specific travel playlist, but I’m really into Hozier these days. So that’s what I’m probably listening to. — Pierce LePage
09
“Confetti”
Charlotte Cardin
Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of R&B, like The Weeknd or Charlotte Cardin. Anything that makes me feel calm and chill. — Aurélie Rivard
10
“Yes, and?”
Ariana Grande
I’ve been listening to a lot of Fred Again. He’s a DJ out of the UK. I like your typical Top 40s hits from Drake, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift. The classics. — Adriana Leon
