Food Worth Flying For

Launched in 2002, Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants is the country’s longest-running ranking for new restaurants and top Canadian culinary talent. The program continues to showcase the country’s best “Food Worth Flying For,” providing a career-changing platform for chefs while bringing Canada’s unique culinary identity to global audiences.

An Annual Journey

Restaurants that opened between May 1 through April 30th become eligible for Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants, setting the stage for a year of discovery.

Panelists Convene

A national panel of journalists, chefs, and culinary storytellers come together to nominate the restaurants that best embody the spirit and rigour of the program.

Dining Tour

One anonymous culinary expert embarks on a cross-country tour to experience Canada’s most exciting new restaurants exactly as any guest would.

Finalists Announced

Following a rigorous framework, and in collaboration with DINR, the Finalists, and the later to be announced Top 10 are determined. Each September, approximately 30 new restaurants are recognized for their excellence.

The finalists are invited to join DINR, where they will be showcased as Air Canada’s Best New Restaurant finalists on the platform. DINR highlights Canada’s most celebrated culinary destinations and offers guests exclusive reservation access, original editorial content, and entry to sought-after culinary events.

Restaurant Eligibility

Restaurant eligibility is a common point of curiosity. The key criteria outlined below define what every restaurant must meet to be considered.

Must be located in Canada and opened between May 1st 2024 and April 30th 2025.
