Whether or not you believe deeply in the power of astrology, it’s hard to deny that winter is a great time to seek the warmth of the sun. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up 12 spots to escape to this winter, from a seaside getaway in the Caribbean to an A–list–inspired vacation in Miami and a romantic trip to Mexico.

Aquarius (January 20–February 18) – Costa Rica

Eco–loving Aquarians should head to this Central American nation known for surfing, volcanoes and a biodiverse rainforest that covers more than half the country. Safe and hospitable, Costa Rica appeals to independent Aquarians travelling solo, especially those on the hunt for adventure: Spot parrots and monkeys while hiking or ziplining through the jungle, relax at one of the country’s numerous hot springs and stargaze to see an endless array of constellations. The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo on the Pacific coast provides luxe resort amenities, surf, kayak or paddleboard lessons and day tripping to Rincón de La Vieja Volcano National Park.

Pisces (February 19–March 20) – La Romana/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Pisces are spiritual – they love to carve their own path while travelling back through time visiting churches and other historic sites. Located on the sunny southeast coast of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo is the oldest city of the Caribbean and home to the region’s first cathedral, university, hospital and courthouse, making it a perfect destination for history–loving Pisces. Visit Alcázar de Colón, home of the country’s first governor, located within the UNESCO World Heritage Colonial City site, or head to the area’s white–sand beaches for swimming and sunbathing. Aries (March 21–April 19) – Jamaica

As an energetic fire sign, Aries will enjoy keeping active by exploring the outdoors or spending a day sightseeing in Jamaica. The country offers independent Aries a wealth of options, from experiencing its distinctive cuisine and music to discovering the pristine beaches and lush interior, home to the Blue Mountains and the island’s favourite rum distillery, Appleton Estate Rum. Immerse yourself in the world of reggae at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston or indulge in the laid–back vibes of Negril and Montego Bay. Taurus (April 20–May 20) – Cayman Islands

The all–inclusive life was made for Taurus vacationers: The hardworking members of this sign enjoy a slow–paced getaway where they can unwind. Gemini (May 21–June 20) – Curaçao

The duality of Curaçao – one of the most multicultural islands of the southern Caribbean – offers temptations that appeal to many a Gemini, satisfying their need to explore the surf and the city. From snorkelling or relaxing on the beach to exploring the pastel–coloured architecture found in Willemstad, the bustling capital city, Curaçao fuels a Gemini’s desire to explore a destination in more than one way. Get a history lesson at the Curaçao Museum and go shopping at the Punda, or head to the Hato Cave to see ancient limestone formations dating back 300,000 years. Cancer (June 21–July 22) – Barbados

A Cancer’s travel motto is “the more, the merrier,” and the relaxed pace of Barbados suits family–oriented, water–loving Cancerians who prefer multi–generational travel. Points of interest on this southern Caribbean island include Bridgetown (check out the 17th–century British architecture and the Nidhe Israel Synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in the Western hemisphere), the serene Andromeda Botanic Gardens (where you’ll find the largest variety of plant species in Barbados) and Oistins’ Bay Gardens Fish Fry (a favourite among locals for its Bajan fish fry and live music). Accra Beach Hotel & Spa offers fun for all ages with its white–sand Rockley Beach and proximity to nearby restaurants and shops.

Leo (July 23–August 22) – Miami, Florida

Known for being the life of the party, Leo is a fire sign that enjoys the glitz and glamour, making Miami – Florida’s hot spot – an ideal winter getaway. Miami boasts the largest art deco district in the world, the newly built Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Frost Museum of Science, not to mention the annual Art Basel Miami and a nightclub scene that rivals that of New York City and Las Vegas. Known for its pink–sand beaches and elegant colonial residences, the island is also the shipwreck capital of the Atlantic Ocean. Libra (September 23–October 22) – Cuba

A couples getaway to sultry Cuba, the largest island of the Caribbean, is an obvious choice for Libras, who love to travel with a partner. When Libras plan a vacation, they weigh the interests of their travel companion to pick a destination that they will both love. Get into vacation mode with a classic mojito, tour the island in a vintage American car or head to Casa de la Música de Miramar for live salsa music. Find the party in Old Havana with a tour of the Havana Club Museum of Rum or a visit to La Bodeguita del Medio, writer Ernest Hemingway’s favourite watering hole. The southern Caribbean’s Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are an ideal escape for curious, adventurous Sagittarius. Members of this sign are not afraid to travel on their own, because it can be hard to find someone that can keep up with their jam–packed itinerary. Island–hopping is the best way to experience the country, from the lush surroundings of the main island of Saint Vincent to the welcoming beach bars of Bequia and Union Island or the idyllic retreats of Palm Island and Petit St. Vincent, where becoming a castaway with all the luxe amenities is possible on these private isles. Capricorn (December 22–January 19) – Puerto Rico

Historic Puerto Rico fits the bill for practical Capricorn travellers who love to learn while abroad. They are an ambitious zodiac sign that enjoys learning more about the past to help them see their future. But because they are so hard–working, they prefer holidays where they can learn while on the road. Stroll the streets of Old San Juan, explore the 16th–century citadel of Castillo San Felipe del Morro and wander among the headstones and sculptures of Santa María Magdelena de Pazzis, a cemetery that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.
