The iconic Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the three cascades that make up Niagara Falls, straddles the border between the United States and Canada. Every minute, enough water to fill 67 Olympic–size swimming pools thunders over the waterfall at more than 100 kilometres an hour. The flow sweeps several tons of powdered rock into the river below, giving the water its vibrant turquoise colour.
